What Does the ‘New/Returning’ Badge on a Contact’s Profile Indicate?
TL;DR
-
New = the contact was added to your organization’s database in the last 30 days.
-
Returning = not new, and the contact is related to at least one past event in your org.
-
No badge = neither condition applies.
How it works
Badges appear on the contact’s profile avatar to help admins quickly segment outreach.
-
New
-
Shown when Created Date ≤ 30 days ago (rolling window).
-
Purpose: highlight truly new records for onboarding/welcome campaigns.
-
-
Returning
- If the contact is older than 30 days and has historical relationship to an existing/past event (e.g., speaker, submitter, sponsor, exhibitor), the badge shows Returning.
-
No badge
-
If the contact is older than 30 days and has no prior event relationship, no badge is displayed.
-
If a contact is not new or returning, no badge is shown.
Practical examples
-
You imported a speaker yesterday → New
-
A speaker you worked with last year gets re-added to an event today → Returning
-
A contact created 45 days ago who hasn’t been tied to any event previously → No badge
FAQ
Q: Is “New” based on accepted sessions?
A: No. It’s strictly based on the contact’s Created Date (last 30 days).
Q: Where do I see the badge?
A: On the contact’s profile picture within the contact record.
Q: What happens after 30 days?
A: The New badge automatically drops. If the contact has past event ties, they’ll show Returning; otherwise, no badge.
Q: What if a contact is edited or reassigned?
A: Edits don’t change the Created Date. Badges follow the rules above.
